FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for June 17, 2013

Residential Burglary:

• 800 block of Vincent, 52 inch flat screen television taken
• 600 block of Walnut, coin money, a gameboy, two cellular phones, and assorted clothing

Commercial Burglary:

• 100 block of Yazoo, U.S. Currency, an I-Pad and an I-Pod taken

Grand Larceny:

• 100 block of Catalpa, a 25,000 BTU air conditioner and a lawn mower battery taken from a residence.

Burglary of a Building: Storage Shed

• 1000 block of Mckinley Street, a lawnmower  was taken.

Auto Burglary:

• 400 Block of McKinley Street, an amplifier and stereo speakers taken.

Arrest:

• 12 Misdemeanor Arrest.
• 3 juveniles were arrested in connection with the Resedential Burgalry on Paul Edwards.  With the assistance of concerned citizens observing the criminal act and reporting the criminal act, the three juveniles were apprehended by the Clarksdale Police Department.

  Dantarius Williams, a 18 year-old black male, has been charged with one count of Aggravated Assault for the shooting that occurred in the 200 Block of Catalpa Street yesterday.  Williams is being held without bond.

Aggravated Assault:

• 200 Block of Catalpa Street, on 06/11/2013 at about 4:25pm, it was reported that a black male subject was shot at several times while he was walking in the 200 Block of Catalpa Street by a black male subject.  There were no injuries.  The Clarksdale Police Department does have a person of interest in custody.

Drive By Shooting:

• 500 Block of Prince Street, on 06/07/2013 at about 12:28am, it was reported that a black male was shot at while riding his bike in the 500 Block of Price Street by an unknown subject in a white SUV.  There were no injuries.

• 1 Felony Arrest.
• Michael Jackson, a 32 year-old black male was charged with one count of murder of Jonathon Anderson that occurred on 04/16/2013 in the 400 Block of Wilson Street.  Bond was set at $350,000.00.

• 200 Block of Eighteenth Street, on 05/31/2013 at about 7:35pm, it was reported that a black male was shot in the back of the upper leg by an unknown subject while he was walking in the 200 Block of Eighteenth Street.

Arrest:

• On 05/31/2013 Anthony Giles, a 23 year-old black male, was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault that occurred at Bishop Dawson and Adams Street on 05/22/2013 where a black male was shot in the leg.  Bond to be set.

• 500 Block of Grant Street, on 05/31/2013 at about 3:34am, it was reported that a residence in the 500 Block of Grant Street was shot into several times by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries.

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for May 28, 2013

Auto Burglary:

• The First Block of 13^Th Street, two watches, a hand tool set, and US Currency taken.

Drive By Shooting:

• 600 Block of Barnes Street, on 05/29/2013 at about 12:01am, it was reported that a black male subject was shot in the arm and lower back while standing out in the 600 Block of Barnes Street by an unknown subject in a white sport utility vehicle.  The subject was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
• 400 Block of Barnes Street, on 05/29/2013 at about 12:11am, it was reported that two vehicles were shot into in the 400 Block of Barnes Street by an unknown subject in a white sport utility vehicle.  Both vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the shooting.  There were no injuries.  Both Drive By Shootings appear to be related.

Arrest:

Residential Burglary:

• 800 Block of Cherokee Street, a TV taken.
• 300 Block of Elm Street, a TV and jewelry taken.

Auto Burglary:

• 100 Block of 16^Th Street, no items taken.

Drive By Shooting:

• 500 Block of Grant Street, on 05/26/2013 at about 12:46am, a black male reported that he was shot at while standing in the 500 Block of Grant Street by an unknown black male subject in a small green vehicle.  There were no injuries. 

Arrest:

• 13 Misdemeanor Arrest.

 

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for May 24, 2013

Murder:

• 300 Block of West Tallahatchie Street, on 05/25/2013 at about 12:03am, shots were fired at a nightclub in the 300 Block of West Tallahatchie Street a black male subject.  John Wilson, a 35 year-old black male, was shot and killed.  Three other subjects were also shot during the incident, a 28 year-old black male, a 22 year-old black female and a 21 year-old black female. All three other victims were transported to the ER for their injuries.  This is all the information that I have available at this time.

Officer Involved Shooting:

• Riley and Sycamore Street, on 05/24/2013 at about 9:41pm, a Clarksdale Police Officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle containing four black male subjects.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the subjects exited the vehicle with firearms.  The officer did fire several shots at one of the subjects with a two rounds striking.  Two of the subjects fled the area on foot and the last subject was taken into custody without incident.  The subject that was shot was transported to the hospital for his injuries.  The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is conducting the investigations into the shooting.  Due to this being an ongoing investigation, this is all the information that I can release at this time.  

Arrest:

• 5 Misdemeanor Arrest.
• 1 Felony Arrest.
• Richard Johnson, a 18 year-old black male, was charged with one count of murder in the 300 Block of Madison that occurred on 05/21/2013.  Bond was set at $250,000.00.

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for May 22, 2013

Residential Burglary:

• 100 Block of Catalpa Street, unknown items taken.

Auto Burglary:

• 200 Block of Tenth Street, a handgun taken.

Grand Larceny:

• 1400 Block of Rose Circle, two weed eaters and a push mower taken.
• 1000 Block of Ritchie Street, a push mower and a lawn blower taken.

Arson:

• 400 Block of Washington Street, a vehicle was set on fire in the 400 Block of Washington Street by an unknown person.

Robbery: Business

• 1600 Block of North State Street, on 05/22/2013 at about 10:01 am, a black male subject entered a business in the 1600 Block of North State Street and sprayed pepper spray at the employees and then took an unknown amount of jewelry from the business.
  

Drive By Shooting:

• Adams and Bishop Dawson Street, on 05/22/2013 at about 4:07pm, a 21 year-old black male was shot one time in the upper leg by a black male subject in a vehicle while he was walking in the area of Adams Street and Bishop Dawson Street.  The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries. 
• 1000 Block of Page Street, on 05/23/2013 at about 12:27am, it was reported that a black female subject was shot in the leg one time while walking in the 1000 Block of Page Street by an unknown black male subject that was driving a dark colored vehicle.  The victim was transported to the hospital for her injuries.  
• 900 Block of Lincoln Street, on 05/23/2013 at about 1:07am, it was reported that two black male subjects were shot while riding in a vehicle in the 900 Block of Page Street by an unknown subject in a light colored vehicle.  One subject was shot three times in the arm and the other subject was shot in the foot.  Both subjects were transported to the hospital for their injuries.

Shooting into a Dwelling:

• 900 Block of Lincoln Street, on 05/23/2013 at about 1:21am, it was reported that a residence had been shot twice in the 900 Block of Lincoln Street.  The bullets did not enter the residence just striking the outside of the residence.  The residence did not appear to be the target of the shooting as the shots were fired around the same time as the above Drive By Shooting at 1:07am.  There were no injuries. 
• 900 Block of Lincoln Street, on 05/23/2013 at about 1:22am, it was reported that a residence had been shot into in the 900 Block of Lincoln Street.  The bullet did enter the residence.  The residence did not appear to be the target of the shooting as the shots were fired around the same time as the above Drive By Shooting at 1:07am.  There were no injuries.

Arrest:

• 3 Misdemeanor Arrest. 

 

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for May 21, 2013

Residential Burglary:

• 900 Block of Russwin Street, a TV, a stereo system, a laptop computer, and assorted DVD movies taken.

Auto Burglary:

• 500 Block of Grant Street, an automotive part taken.

Murder:

• 300 Block of Madison Street, on 05/21/2013 at about 1:47pm, police responded to a shooting call in the 300 Block of Madison Street.  Officers found a Black Male shot one time in the stomach.  The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.  It was reported to officers that the victim was fighting with another black male subject when a gun was pulled and one shot was fired and the suspect then fled the area on foot.  Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call The Clarksdale Police Department at 662-621-8151 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

• Benjamin Stewart, a 27 year-old black male, charged with one Uttering a Forgery (Forged Check $439.00) that occurred on 04/27/2012 in the 700 Block of South State Street.  Bond was set at $2,500.00.

Robbery:

• 300 Block of Prince Street, on 05/19/2013 at about 2:19am, it was reported that a black female had her purse taken from her by force by two black male subjects.   There were no injuries.

Aggravated Assault

• 200 Block of Pecan Street, on 05/17/2013 at about 9:53pm, a black male subject was shot twice in the back while standing out in the 200 Block of Pecan Street by an unknown black male subject.  Subject was transported to the hospital for his injuries.   

Shooting into a Dwelling:

• 1600 Block of Reno Street, on 05/19/2013 at about 8:40pm, it was reported that a residence in the 1600 Block of Reno was shot into by a black male subject.  There were no injuries.
• 1700 Block of Espy Drive, on 05/20/2013 at about 4:10am, it was reported that a residence was shot into in the 1700 Block of Espy Drive by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries.

Arrest:

• On 05/17/2013, Dana Harris a 33 year-old black male, was charged with one count of embezzlement of over $500.00 from October 2012 to April 2013.  Bond was set at $50,000.00.

• 200 Block of Lynn Street, on 04/30/2013 at about 11:26pm, it was reported that a black male subject was shot one time in the back while walking in the 200 Block of Lynn Street by an unknown subject.  Victim was transported to hospital for his injuries.

Armed Robbery:

• 400 Block of Quincy Street, on 50/01/2013 at about 12:11am, it was reported that two unknown black male subjects took US Currency from another black male after hitting him in the head several times with a handgun.  The victim was walking in the 400 Block of Quincy when the subjects took his US Currency.  The victim did suffer minor injuries from the assault.

Drive By Shooting:

• 1700 Block of Espy Drive, on 04/24/2013 at about 9:06pm, it was reported that three black male subjects were shot at by an unknown black male subject driving a SUV in the 1700 Block of Espy Street.  The three subjects were not struck by the shots and there were no injuries.

Arrest:

• 5 Misdemeanor Arrest.

Aggravated Assault:

• 400 Block of South State Street, on 04/23/2013 at about 7:58pm, it was reported that an unknown subject shot into a business located in the 400 Block of South State Street while the business was still open.  At this time it is undetermined whether the business or anyone located in the business was the target of the shooting.  There were no injuries.  Anyone with any information about this shooting please call The Clarksdale Police Department at 662-621-8151 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.   
• 500 Block of Illinois Street, on 04/23/2013 at about 9:40pm, it was reported that two black male subjects were shot while standing out in the 500 Block of Illinois Street by unknown subjects.  One subject was shot twice in the upper body and the other subject was shot one time in the upper body.  Both subjects were transported to the hospital for their injuries.  Anyone with any information about this shooting please call The Clarksdale Police Department at 662-621-8151 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

• 100 – 400 Block of Washington Avenue, on 07/17/2013 at about 10:00pm, it was reported that a vehicle occupied by a black male and black female was shot into one time while traveling on Washington Avenue.  There were no injuries. 
• 300 Block of Madison Street, on 04/17/2013 at about 11:59pm, it was reported that a vehicle occupied by a black female subject was shot into several times while traveling in the 300 Block of Madison Street.

Shooting into a Dwelling:

•  300 Block of Madison Street, on 04/16/2013 at about 10:07am, it was reported that a residence was shot into one time in the 300 Block of Madison Street by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries.  It appears to be one of the bullets that may have missed the car from the aggravated assault report yesterday that was not discovered until after press release yesterday.

Aggravated Assault:

•  300 Block of Madison Street, on 04/15/2013 at about 11:56pm, it was reported that a vehicle was shot into several times as it was traveling in the 300 Block of Madison Street by an unknown subject.  There were two people inside the vehicle.  A fragment of one of the bullets struck a female passenger.  She was treated and released at the hospital.  No further injuries.

Murder:

• 400 Block of Wilson Street, on 04/16/2013 at about 2:04am, Jonathon Anderson, a 25 year-old black male subject was found shot in the upper body in the 400 Block of Wilson Street.  There are no suspects at this time.  We ask that if anyone as any information on this shooting to call The Clarksdale Police Department at 662-621-8151 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

• 1500 Block of Alan Drive, on 04/05/2013 at about 1:15pm, it was reported that two black male subjects attempted to take US Currency another black male at gunpoint while washing his vehicle in the 1500 Block of Alan Drive.  The two subjects did assault the victim by hitting him with the handgun and he suffered minor injuries.

Sheriff's Department Press Release:

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the recent theft of both County and State property.

On March 15^th and 19^th, Sheriff Investigators arrested 28 year old, George Brian Cook and 24 year old, Brendon Stanley, both from Clarksdale, Ms. charging the two with Grand Larceny.

The charges stem from the theft of multiple State of Mississippi and Coahoma County signs taken from the roads throughout Coahoma County.

Both are being charged with two counts of Grand Larceny.  A bond of $2500.00 per person has been set.

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for March 12, 2013

Aggravated Assault:

• 300 Block of Madison Street, on 03/12/2013 at about 11:04pm, it was reported that a black male subject was cut several times on his face by an unknown subject while walking in the 300 Block of Madison Street.  The subject was treated and released from the hospital for his injuries.

Arrest:

Sheriff's Press Release:

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged 22 yr old Kendel Montgomery (See photo below) of Davenport, MS with Capital Murder. He is the grandson of the victim, 68 yr old Mary Webb also of Davenport, MS.

In less than 24 hours after discovering the body of Ms. Webb in her home, the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation developed a suspect in this case. Once the suspect, Kendel Montgomery was identified, the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted the US Marshalls. The US Marshalls were able to apprehend the suspect in Memphis, Tn. late Monday afternoon. The suspect took his Grandmothers van from her residence in Davenport, which was later, located in Memphis by the Memphis Police Department.

Although the case is still under investigation, robbery is suspected to be the motive. Ms Webb suffered multiple stab wounds, however, the autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.

Montgomery is currently being held in the Coahoma County Jail.

Sheriff Charles Jones stated, “This is an unfortunate incident that took place in the small community of Davenport, MS.  The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, US Marshalls Service and Memphis Police Department worked around the clock to solve this case. We appreciate the hard work that all these agencies put forth in bringing this family closure.”

Sheriff's Report

At approx. 7:53pm, Sunday March 10, 2013, Coahoma County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in Davenport, Ms. When the Deputies arrived, they found 68 years old, Mary Webb, deceased inside her residence. Coahoma County Sheriff’s Investigators, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Mississippi Crime Lab were called out to investigate the incident.

This case is being ruled a homicide. We are waiting for the findings from the autopsy to determine the cause of death. No arrests have been made at this time.

Death Investigation:

• On 02/01/2013, The Clarksdale Police Department arrested George Walker Jr, a 32 year-old black male on four outstanding warrants without incident.  While in custody, subject Walker suffered a medical emergency and died.  Medical attention was provided at the time of emergency.  Preliminary cause of death from the State Medical Examiner’s Office is pending toxicology.  Because subject Walker died while in police custody, The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is conducting the death investigation.

Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident:

• 700 Block of Catalpa Street, on 01/12/2013 at about 11:14pm, it was reported that two black males were walking in the 700 Block of Catalpa Street when shots were fired by an unknown subject.  One of the male subjects was shot in the leg.  The subject was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
• 500 Block of Catalpa Street, on 01/13/2013 at about 1:43am, it was reported that a black male subject was shot one time in the leg an unknown person while walking in the 500 of Catalpa Street.  Subject was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
• 800 Block of Vincent Street, on 01/13/2013 at about 4:15am, it was reported that a black male subject was shot in the shoulder by an unknown subject.  The subject was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

• 900 Block of School Street, on 01/13/2013 at about 3:26am, it was reported that a residence in the 900 Block of School Street was shot into several times by an unknown person.  There were no injuries.

Missing Person:

• On 01/11/2013 at about 5:20pm, it was reported that a 64 year-old black male subject went missing in the Sunflower River in the area near East Circle and South Circle.  Law Enforcement from The Clarksdale Police Department, Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office, The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and The Coahoma County Search and Rescue team attempted to locate the subject on 01/11/2013 and 01/12/2013.  As of the time of this press release the subject has not been found.

• 200 Block of Adams Street, on 10/30/2012 at about 9:53pm, it was reported that several black male juveniles attempted to rob a black male subject with a gun.  The juveniles did not take anything but did assault the male subject by hitting him in the head with the gun.  The male subject received minor injuries.

Homicide:

• 300 Block of West Tallahatchie Street, on 10/25/2012 at about 9:33pm, Roderick Harper, a 34 year-old black male, was stabbed outside a night club in the 300 Block of West Tallahatchie Street by a 18 year black female that started with a verbal altercation and turned into a physical altercation between the two.  Subject was transported to the ER where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.  The motive of the stabbing appears to be domestic in nature.  The female subject is in custody.  No charges have been filed pending further investigation.

• 500 Block of Prince Street, on 09/25/2012 at about 12:59am, Patrick Simon (18 year-old black male was shot and killed outside a residence in the 500 Block of Prince street.  There were also two other black males that were shot.  One was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the leg.  The Clarksdale Police Dept is currently following up on several leads in this case.

• 100 Block of Ninth Street, on 08/02/2012 at about 12:23am, it was reported that two residences in the 100 Block of Ninth Street were shot into by an unknown person.  There were also several vehicles that were parked in front of the residences that were also shot into.  The vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the shooting.  The residences were next to each other.  There were no injuries.

Residential Burglary:

• 700 Block of Catalpa Street, a laptop computer taken.
• 600 Block of School Street, jewelry taken.

 

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for July 30, 2012

Residential Burglary:

• 400 Block of Lynn Street, two TVs, a desktop computer, a computer modem, a DVD player, and jewelry taken.
• 600 Block of South Edwards Street, no items taken.

Auto Burglary:

• 400 Block of South Street, no items taken.
• 1900 Block of Hospital Drive, a CD player taken.

Grand Larceny:

• 1500 Block of Allen Drive, US Currency taken.

Aggravated Assault:

• 900 Block of School Street, on 07/30/2012 at about 11:20pm, it was reported that a residence in the 900 Block of School Street was shot at but not shot into by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries.  This was the same house from the shooting early Sunday morning.

Shooting into a Dwelling:

• 700 Block of Catalpa Street, on 07/31/2012 at about 2:01am it was reported that a residence in the 700 Block of Catalpa Street was shot into several times by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries. 
• 300 Block of Carolina Street, on 07/31/2012 at about 3:10am, a residence in the 300 Block of Carolina Street was shot into by an unknown subject.  There were no injuries. 

 

FELONY REPORTS: Felony Reports for July 26-29, 2012

7-26-2012:   

Credit Card Fraud:

• 1000 Block of Lee Drive- victim credit card was used fraudulently and U.S. Currency was taken in this fraud. This offense remains under investigation.

Residential Burglary:

• 400 Block of Mooney Street- nothing taken from the residence but the house was ransacked  this offense remains under investigation
• 2000 Block of 8th Street- clothing and gym shoes stolen from the residence

7-27-2012:     

Aggravated Assault:

• 17th Street- during the early morning hours victim was shot in the back when he was approached by some other subjects and the subjects confronted the victim and his friends and the subjects started shooting at the victim.  The victim was shot in the back and later taken to the emergency room to be treated.  Police are still investigating this shooting at this time.  

Grand Larceny Auto:

• 400 block of Garfield- vehicle was reported stolen from the 400 block of Garfield Street in which it is a 1990 Geo Prism

Residential Burglary:

• 400 block of Catalpa Street- U.S. Currency stolen from the residence and this offense remains under investigation
• 500 block of Prince Street- nothing appeared to be taken at this time but entry was gained and investigators are following up leads to this offense.

7-28-2012:    

Shootings in the city limits:

• 100 block of 18th Street- there were three reported shootings on this date in which two residences were shot into and one automobile was shot into during the early morning hours.  Home owners and vehicle owners awakened and found their property had been shot into.  No suspects at this time.
• 300 block of Madison- concerned citizen reported shots being fired from two vehicles.  Clarksdale. Police Officers responded and were not able to locate the vehicles.  
• 400 Block of School Street- Nobody was injured in this shooting but the house was shot into numerous of times.  This incident is under investigation at this time.

Residential Burglary:

• 1000 Block of Ritchie Street- coin money was stolen from the residence and nothing else appeared to have been taken

 
Aggravated Assault:

• 900 Block of Vincent Street- victim was inside of the house when he heard several shots and he was later found to be shot in the leg area.  Victim was taken to the Emergency Room and treated.
• 300 block of Madison- victim residence was shot into numerous of times, two subjects that were in the residence were shot but both subjects are in stable condition.
• 1000 block of King Street-victim was walking to his vehicle when he notice another vehicle driving toward his direction.  The victim got into his car and got down as the subjects in the other vehicle started shooting into the vehicle which the victim was in.   The victim was shot and is in stable condition.  This offense remains under investigation.

7-29-2012:     

Residential Burglary:

• 400 block of Corbin- a 32 inch flat screen and a 19 inch flat screen television stolen from residence

 
Aggravated Assault:

• 700 block of Herrin- vicitim was walking in the alley and heard gun shots and the victim started running and was shot in the ankle.  Police responded and the victim was taken to the Emergency Room.  
• 200 Block of Madison- two subjects were in a car and they were driving in the area of Madison, they saw two subjects standing on a corner and the two subjects that were standing started shooting into the vehicle.  The passenger of the vehicle was shot twice and was taken to the emergency room to be treated.
