Robert Leo “Bobby” Schmitz, Jr., died at his home on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.   Services will be at First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. 

Mr. Schmitz was born on November 4, 1937, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Robert Leo Schmitz and Jessie Hays Schmitz.  He graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1955, where he was a member of the Clarksdale High School Pioneer Band and the drummer in a local dance band, The Dixielanders. He attended Delta State University and the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  He served in the United States Army Reserve. 

Mr. Schmitz was president of Delta Welding and Machine Works Corporation and served on numerous boards including Coahoma Bank, Clarksdale Country Club, and Coahoma Airport Authority. He pursued many endeavors, but his real passion was for golf.  He played in numerous tournaments and won the Clarksdale Country Club Championship nine times between 1966 and 1983.  Turning his passion into his profession, he accepted the job as Golf Pro at the Clarksdale Country Club.  He quickly excelled at turf management and earned his Professional Golf Association Class A-1 Professional Rating – going on to serve as Golf Pro at CCC for more than twenty years. Teaching the game to others and watching the skills emerge from players all over brought him the most satisfaction in the end.    

Mr. Schmitz was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leo Schmitz, and by his sister, Geraldine Schmitz.  He leaves his wife, Linda Dilworth Schmitz; his daughter Meri Tenhet and her husband Tim; his son Denzil Schmitz and his wife Amy; and his son Max Schmitz and his wife Lauren.  He also leaves four grandchildren, Elliot Tenhet and Denzil, Kate, and Tanner Schmitz. 

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church at Box 1303, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

William Patrick Barron, 31, a Boot Warehouse salesman in Hattiesburg, MS, died April 22, 2014 at New Orleans,LA. Visitation is Saturday April 26, 2014, 9:00am-11:00am at Clarksdale Baptist Church in Clarksdale,MS. Funeral services are 11:00am Saturday April 26, 2014 at Clarksdale Baptist Church in Clarksdale,MS with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale,MS is handling the arrangements.

He was a Lee Academy graduate and a former student at the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the M-Club, former manager of the Ole Miss Football team and an avid Ole Miss football fan. He also was a former assistant coach at Bayou Academy and Marvel Academy. He was a member of Clarksdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include: wife Erica Davis Barron of Bassfield,MS; parents Barry Barron and Denise Newsome Barron of Clarksdale, MS;

step-daughter Anslea Woodard of Bassfield, MS; paternal grandmother Robbie Long Barron of Lawrenceburg, TN; maternal grandmother JoAnn Allison Newsome of Oxford, MS; sister Betsy Barron Potter (Wesley) and nephew Clayton Potter of Lawrenceburg, TN.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Tom K. Barron and maternal grandfather Lagaston Newsome.

Mr. William Barron passed away in New Orleans, LA yesterday.  Arrangements will be announced at a later time.

Mr. Joe Howard, age 73, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 in Clarksdale, MS. The family will receive friends at a catered reception from 1:00 pm - 2:00pm Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at National Funeral Home followed by the funeral service that will begin at 2:00 pm in the chapel at National Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale, MS.

Mr. Howard was retired from the U. S. Post Office and a Greeter at Wal-Mart. He was also a member of Riverside Baptist Church. Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Betty Howard of Clarksdale, MS; his daughter Pamela (Rickey) Howard Benson of Southaven, MS; his son Joey Howard of Pearl, MS; Sisters Wilma Varner of Oxford, MS; Ruby Horn and Annie Province of Batesville, MS; and brother Bob Howard of Denton, TX. Five Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren also survive him.

Mr. Howard is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Eula Howard and two Grandchildren Caleb and Eden Benson.
